Velvet Scars - A Kingdom of Courage

25 July - 9 August

Stories have always found a home at Pulitzer Amsterdam. This summer, those stories continue through Velvet Scars - A Kingdom of Courage, a temporary exhibition by photographer and visual artist Jasper Abels, presented as part of WorldPride Amsterdam 2026.

From 25 July until 9 August, set throughout Pulitzer Amsterdam's historic canal houses, entrance and Pulitzer Garden, the exhibition invites guests to discover each work as part of their journey through the hotel. Each space reveals a new chapter, encouraging moments of reflection and discovery along the way.

Complimentary to visit, the exhibition is open to both hotel guests and visitors from 25 July until 9 August.

The Exhibition

Inspired by forgotten stories from Dutch queer history, Velvet Scars – A Kingdom of Courage brings together contemporary portraiture, Dutch couture and historical references in a series exploring identity, freedom, visibility, love and self-expression.

Through richly layered imagery, Jasper Abels reflects on the past while giving voice to the present, creating visual narratives that celebrate resilience, individuality and the courage to be unapologetically yourself.
